FEELINGS

SOMETIMES WE ARE PULLED TORWARD ONE OR TWO CHARACTERS IN THE STORY IN THIS CHAPTER OR SHORT STORY "MOOKIE IN LOVE" I FEEL MOST CONNECTED TO THE MAIN CHARACTER KAREN.I FEEL THIS BECAUSE HER MOTHER AND ALL ELLEVEN OF HER AUNTIES ARE VERY OVER PROTECTIVE OF HER COUSIN MOOKIE BECAUSE HES THE ONLY BOY IN THE FAMILY.KARENS FIREND AND MOOKIE SAW EACH OTHER AND THEY FELT AS IF IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.THE WOMAN IN THE FAMILY DISAGREED WITH THEIR RELATIONSHIP SO THEY TRIED THEIR BEST TO BREK THEM UP.KAREN FELT AS IF SHE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF IT SHE DIDNT KNOW WHETHER SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HER BESTFRIEND OR TEL HER FAMILY HOW BIG OF A DEAL THEY ARE MAKING THE SITUATION AND THAT MOOKIE IS OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE HIS OWN DECISIONS.I OFTEN FEEL MYSELF IN A SIMULAR SITUATION BECAUS EMY BROTHER IS CURRENTLY IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH ONE OF MY BESTFRIENDS AND MY MOTHER DOESNT REALLY AGREE WITH IT SO I FIND MYSELF TELLING HER THAT THEY'RE OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS AND THEY'RE GOING TO REMAIN IN A RELATIOPNSHIP UNTILL THEY'RE READY TO HANG IT UP.SO AS FAR AS CONNECTING TO THE CHARACTERS I TOTALLY CAN CONNECT TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF THE CHARACTERS IN MY BOOK.

HOW WOULD IT BE????

IF I WERE TO PUT THIS STORY INTO MY OWN LIFE I DONT THINK THAT THE SORY WOULD CHANGE AT ALL.MY FRUENDS ARE AT A TIME IN THEIR LIVES WHERE THEY FEEL AS IF THEY NEED A BOY IN THEIR LIVES TO MAKE THEM HAPPY.THEY WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES SUCH AS TALKING TO BOYS THAT THEY USE,LIKE THE MAIN CHARACTER CHELSEA IN THE SHORT STORY"I KNOW A STUPID BOY WHEN I SEE ONE". THE SETTING WOULD CHANGE OF COURSE BUT THATS JUST BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE IN WHERE I LIVE.PEOPLE IN CHELSEAS SITUATION YOUNG,PREGNANT,NIEVE AND TAKES ADVANAGE OF THE PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE THE SAME MENTALITY AS THEY DO.WELL CHELSEA ENDED UP USING WILLIE WHO WAS MENTALLY CHALLENGED AND TELLING
HIM THAT THAT WAS HIS CHILD SO THAT HE CAN BUY AND STEAL THINGS FOR HER SHE ENDED UP GETTING KILLED BY WILLIE BECAUSE HE FELT SHE TOOK AWAY SOMETHING PRECIOUS TO HIM WHEN SHE TOLD HIM THAT THE BABY WASNT HIS.

If I couls put it in my life

Well lets see here if I put this story into my life how woulld it change???? Well the story would change alot because i would change all the bad things that happend to her because you did not deserive all the thing that was happing to her. She remind me of one of my friends who is the same way who dont see the wrong in people only see the good in the person who they are with.I woulds change the whole thing kinda I would keep the story the same but I would vhange around some of the events that happen like when she was at he gym and she seem her boyfriend and everyone was around him and he did not even say hi top her that was messed up not even rite.

CHANGES

SHE HAD ATO MAKE LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES!!!!!! WHEN SHE LEFT HOME TO EXLORE WHO SHE WAS THAT WAS A COURAGOUS MOVE. MY MIND IS TELLING I WOULD DO THE SAME THING BUT I KNOW MYT HEART WOULDNT LET ME!!!! I FEEL AS IF THERES A REASON FOR EVERYTHING SO IF GOD HAD ME LIVING MY LIFE WITHOUT KNOWING WHO I WAS PERSONALLY THEN I WOULD PROBLLY MAKE MY OWN INFORMATION UP, OR I WOULD JUST LIVE Y LIFE HAPPILY.

As told from him

The story Rewind, is told from a first person point of view. He walks you through his life as a teenager who is killed by a car and has been given the chance to go back to any point in his life. Once he goes back to try and fix his accident he ends up wiith the same conclusion as the first time.

" Time Well Spent Reading"

I loved reading this book. This book was very interesting. It drew me in to a whole other world. I just couldn't put it down.I don't think it is possible to find a book interesting and not enjoy it. If something interests me I am drawn to it, I need to finish it. If I was younger I probably wouldn't be into it. When I was younger I enjoyed fantasy books. I did have high expectations. This book reached all my standards of what a book should be like. It was interesting, realistic and had a good plot. The book jacket was which drew me in. It is simply a little Indian girl with a scarf on that only shows her eyes. The illustration did a god job of indicating this type of book, because the book is basically about a young Indian girl sold into prostitution. I truly enjoyed reading this book and recommend this book to everyone who likes a "GOOD" book.

"i like white boys"

AS I READ FURTHER INTO MY BOOK TODAY I FINISHED ONE STORY, AND STARTED THE SHORT STORY "I LIKE WHITE BOYS".I BECAME VERY SURPRISED AT THE RACIAL COMMENTS THAT WENT ON IN THIS PARTICULAR PART IN THE BOOK.BASICALLY THIS VERY DARK SKIN BLACK GIRL LIKES WHITE BOYS.THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE WHITE BOY LIKES WHITE GIRLS.SO BECAUSE OF THIS EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THE MAIN CHARACTER OR "THE BLACK GIRL" FOUND OUT ABOUT HER CRUSH AND BEGINS TO TEASE HER BECAUSE SHE'S NOT ONLY AN OUCAST BUT SHE DOESNT ACT LIKE THE REST OF THE BLACK KIDS SO TO SPEAK.THE ONE RACIAL COMMENT SAID TO THE BOY THAT SHE LIKED WAS VERY OFFENSIVE TO ME.ONE BOY CAME UP TO HIM AND SAID "ITS TIME TO DUMP YOUR GIRLFRIEND WENDY ATLEAST GOING WITH ERICA U GET TWO FOR ONE A BLACK GIR ON THE OUTSIDE AND A WHITE GIRL ON THE INSIDE.I CANT REALLY EXPLAIN HOW THAT MADE ME FEEL.BUT THESE ARE ONLY SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THAT CHILDREN DEAL WITH GOING TO SCHOOL EACH DAY.

Queezy =O

Certain parts of the book made me very uncomfortable. The book described how disgusting, drunk, smelly old men would come and have sex with Nakshimi. The way she lived was unbearable. There was a corner which was the "bathroom". Also if a girl tried to escape they would shave her head leaving a bald spot to show how unworthy they were. Woman there are beat constantly.

I felt very nautious thinking about it. It made me sick thinking this really happens in the real world. Some woman survive and some don't. Or they are never rescued. It gives me an image of little girls being raped by men old enough to be there grandfather. It is disgusting and they should go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!

similarities

In the book So Be It the characters seem like they can be believable, becasue the world is a crazy place. Things may seem wierd and out of place but they are just as normal to that person as soemone going o the store to shop. i cant personally relate to any of the characters in the book. the closest thing that i can relate to in this book is knowing someone that doesnt know there father and wants to find out who he is such as my cousin. my cousin is now 18 years of age and he doesnt know his father!!!! ABUT HE IS DETERMNED TO FIND OUT WHO IS HE IS ONE DAY. the character Hiedi reminds me of a neighbor of mine that has a mother thats not there for her and hasnt been since she was a little girl just like Heidi's father.

QUESTION?

hmmmmmm if i could ask Nakshimi a question I would have to ask her if she could forgiver her stepfather after the pain he put her through. I would also ask her how she survived this terrible experience. I would tell her that she was very strong and must love her family to the up most. If i could ask the author a question it would be "how did u come up with the idea of writing this book and what motivated you to?" I would ask these questions because I'm still curious to know about how these woman survived these cruel experiences.

The Allure of the West

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer, pgs 144-207 (end)
Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, pgs 1-97

So, I finished Into the Wild and started rereading a book that I'm studying with my AP Literature class. As I read the first act of the play I was struck by the similarity between Chris McCandless and many of the characters from Death of a Salesman. The main character of this story, Willy Loman frets over a missed opportunity to accompany his older brother to Alaska to make money. Instead he is 60 and stuck in a dead end sales job. Interestingly enough, Willy's father abandoned him as a child to also seek fortune in Alaska. In a weird twist, Willy is disappointed in his son Biff because he is constantly seeking work outside of the norm of the day. He's worked on cattle farms and other jobs that Willy does not respect. Biff explains that he likes these jobs because he's not stuck inside at a desk and can be out in the open air.

In American culture the west has always been symbolic of the open frontier, a vast unexplored wilderness where a man could make his living outside of the realm of laws and societal constraints. It's interesting that these two books, written 50 years apart, have such similar themes.

Does anyone else know of any characters who seek a life outside of society? Anyone have a friend or family member who constantly wants to go out on the open road? What do you think drives a person to feel like this?

Setting of "SOLD"

The setting of this book takes place in two places. In the beginning of the book it takes place in Nepal. This is when Lakshimi is happy living with her mother. The second half of the book takes place in a city in India, where Lakshimi is forced into prostitution. This has an effect on Lakshimi because she is forced to sleep with men at the age of thirteen. Her life becomes miserable and unbearable.

who am i without him by sharon g. flake

THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN AND PUBLISHED IN 2004.WHO IN HER LIFE INSPIRED HER TO WRITE SUCH A DETAILED BOOK,AND ARE THESE SITUATIONS SHE OR SOMEONE SHE KNOWS HAS FACED ARE QUESTIONS THAT COME TO MIND AS I ENHANCE IN READING THE BOOK.IF I WERE TO PICK THIS BOOK BACK UP AND READ IT IN ABOUT TEN YEARS I DONT THINK THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE BOOK WOULD CHANGE ONE BIT.SITUATIONS OUR GENERATION IS DEALING WITH ARE GOING TO BE THE SAME SITUATIONS THAT OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR GENERATIONS WILL GO THROUGH.WHICH IS WHY I APPLAUD MS.FLAKE FOR HER KNOWING THAT SHE IS TEACHING LESSONS THROUGH LITERATURE AND BEING A POSITIVE INSPIRATION EVERYTIME SOMEONE GOES TO READ HER BOOK.

curious reader!!!!!!!!!!!

If i could ask the character anything i would ask her why sje wanted to no more about her life??? What made her want to get up and find everything about herself after years of knowing nothing?

If i was able to ask the author any question i would want to know what inspired her to write a book thats so deep and has so much emotion in it? What events in her life, if any, helped her write such a heart felt book?

Rewind

The novel, Rewind by William Sleator was about a boy who was killed when his next door neighbor hit him with a car. He was given the chance to go back in time and do it all over.

A thing i like about the book is the the theme of the book.

A thing that i disliked about the book was that he ends up dieing afte he was given another chance at life.

"SOLD"

My book is basically the story of a young girl named Lakshimi. Lakshimi lives in Nepal, with her loving mother and evil stepfather. Her family is struggling to survive. After the Himalayan monsoons wash away all of their crops, Lakshimi's stepfather says she has to leave home to get a job and help their family. She soon finds out she has been sold into prostitution by her stepfather, which her mother did not know about. She is trapped their until she can pay her families debt.

The one thing I like about this book is that it is very realisitc. Also how the book is told, it is told in little chapters.

SO B it

Hey everyone this jessica and im reading a book called So B. it by Sarah Weeks. This story is about a girl that has a mentally challenged mother and no father. She sets out on a journey to find out more about who she is. She doesnt no her own birthday. everything to Heidi is a mystery to her.

One thing about this book that i do like is she still amkes the better out of the situation shes in. Her next door neighbor wont go the house but she helps heidi alot. At nite she tucks her in and reads her different stories.

who am i without him Sharon G. Flake STORIES 1-6

FIRST OF ALL I PICKED MY BOOK BASED ON THE CATCHY GRABBER TITLE.THIS CAUGHT MY EYE BECAUCSE I ASSUMED THAT THIS BOOK WOULD EXPRESS THE WAY YOUNG PEOPLE FELT IN REAL LIFE SITUATIONS AND SITUATIONS BEING FACED THROUHOUT HIGHSCHOOL YEARS.WHO AM I WITHOUT HIM IS A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES ABOUT GIRLS IN REALISTIC BASED SITUATIONS THAT ARE THE COMMON WHEN BOYS AND GIRLS GET TO THE PEEKS OF DATING AND RELATIONSHIPS.I BELIEVE THAT BOOKS LIKE THIS ARE POSITIVE BECAUSE YOUNG WOMEN SUCH AS MYSELF CAN RELATE IN WAYS THAT MAY HELP ME LATER ON IN LIFE.THE FIRST SHORT STORY "SO I AINT NO GOOD GIRL" WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES BECAUSE OF THE REALISTICNESS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER AND HER SITUATIONS THAT I OFTEN RELATED TO WHILE REDING THE BOOK.

SINCE THE BOOK IS FULL OF SHORT STORIES THERE ARE MANY CHARACTERS TELLING THEIR OWN PROBLEMS AND SITUATIONS.NOW THAT I AM GETTING FURTHER INTO THE BOOK I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE WAY SOME PEOPLE HANDLE THINGS AS OPPOSE TO HOW I WOULD HANDLE IT IF I WERE IN THAT SITUATION.

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer Pages: 1-144

So, the book I'm reading is about this early twenty something kid who
is pretty alienated. It's a nonfiction book, and since I haven't
summed it up yet in a previous response, it's about a kid who is
searching for meaning in life and seeks this meaning by exploring.
At the beginning of the book we find out that he ends up dying in the
middle of Alaska to exposure.

Even though I think I'm supposed to, I'm having a really hard time
identifying with the main character, Chris McCandless. I look at
the cover and there's this picture of Emile Hirsch portraying
McCandless. He's a good looking kid, and he's kind of sitting in this
"top of the world" type dominant pose. The author seems to really
identify with the character, and spends a couple of chapters relating
his own similar experiences. And McCandless is seemingly the rugged,
individualistic antihero that Americans celebrate.

But, I can't get into him, and I think it's because I'm a parent
now. I see the way this kid abandoned his parents, went off into the
middle of nowhere, took chances, didn't write home, and espoused his
theories on the way life works to whomever would listen, and I'm
like, "dude...call your mom, dad and sister. They're worried sick."
The kid is kind of portrayed as this spiritual, deep Thoreau quoting
prophetic figure, but he just strikes me as naive and self centered.
I don't know what I'd do if I was his parent. I would be devastated
if my son took off after graduating college and just disappeared.
It's really rather sad.

(By the way, if you're wondering, this response is to the 7th bullet
under character. The total length of this response is 279 words. I
summed up the book to start because I figured you'd need that
information, but then I really tried to stick to talking about
whether or not I identified with the main character and why.)

Intro.

Almost every little girl have a fairy tail of going out with the most popular boy in school which may be the captain of the football team or basketball team.In the book in the paint by Philana Marie Boles is about how a girl name Danni goes with a boy named Dallas laylock who playes for the Detroit Pistons.Everyone though they had a fairy tail relationship but oh no nothing close to a fairy tail.

I like this book because it is a twist like you dont know what may happen next. In my opion I think that that is the best kind of books out there.

Your 1st Post!

Today in class we will be posting to our blogs. To keep things simple, this
first post will be a kind of introductory thing. Here's what I'd like each
of you to write (make sure it is under your own display name):

1. In 2-3 sentences, give us a taste of the book. What is the title? Who
is the author? What is the "gist"? (It's about a girl who...)
2. In a separate paragraph of 2-3 sentences, finish this sentence: One
thing I like (or don't like) about the book so far is...
